The UK now has the most expensive diesel in Europe by 12p a litre - RAC
Diesel is up 55p, or 39%, since 28 February. The all-time record was set to fall this weekend.
Every cost shock sorts businesses into two groups. Those with pricing power and those whose customers set the price for them.
Now we’re 7 months in, the sorting has already happened. The businesses that repriced in March have held their margin. The ones still waiting to see where fuel settles have been absorbing 39% and calling it customer loyalty.
A buyer looking at your 2026 accounts won't ask what diesel cost. They'll ask what your margin did when it moved.
