If AI made your business 20% more productive tomorrow, would you cut heads or add capacity?
And which answer builds the more valuable business?
The headlines would suggest you will cut. Amazon has shed around 30,000 jobs with AI partly to blame. Microsoft another 5,000.
But look at the data, because it says something different.
A Ramp study reported in Fortune found that companies with the heaviest AI adoption actually grew their workforces by 10% over two years - and increased entry-level hiring by 12%.
The firms getting the most from AI aren't shrinking. They're using the new capacity to grow.
Makes you wonder if some firms are simply blaming AI for cuts they'd have made anyway.
Most business owners would be better off ignoring the noise - because so far, AI's real prize isn't less headcount. It’s having a business with much more capacity - and one that depends less on you.
