Here’s what I’ve learnt from the businesses that got it right…
Mentality. You always hear about having a growth mindset. Yes, you must think in those terms – but more than that – you need total belief. If you don’t one hundred percent believe in your own offer, go do something else.
Sales and Marketing Engine. I would say the majority of business owners I meet are reasonable sales people. But you can’t scale your business without having a powerful infrastructure, delivering consistent sales at volume. And this isn’t something I would outsource to a black box provider.
Unit Economics. Once you prove that your customers will pay more than it costs you to serve them, you then want scalable unit economics – in other words, you can increase revenue more quickly than it costs to grow your customer base.
Strategic Partnerships. This is something I talk about a lot. There is little else that will open doors so quickly or provide the expertise, access to resources, and networks as building the right kind of partnerships.
Not the only ingredients you need to scale your business, but the most critical ones in my opinion…
