Do Entrepreneurs Ever Really Retire?

Have you ever thought about the afterlife of an entrepreneur?

Because it crops up all the time with business owners, who want to sell their business in the next couple of years.

And sometimes it can hold an owner back from pursuing a successful exit.

But here’s the reality: it’s rare for a business owner to exit their business, retire and then do nothing.

OK, there might be an extended holiday planned, for after the exit.

Though there is always something just beyond the horizon. Here are the most common ‘next chapters’ I hear from business owners looking to sell their business…

> Start another business. Or at least, invest in another business.

> Give back. Establish a foundation, partner with a charity or make a meaningful social impact.

> Create content. Write a book, blog or start a channel to share knowledge.

> Teach or mentor. Run masterminds, events or courses. Support young entrepreneurs.

> Travel the world. Explore new cultures, gain fresh perspectives and make up for lost time. Sail a yacht to the Caribbean or Med.

> Develop a new skill. Pursue personal interests and passions.

> Become a non-exec or join an advisory board.

> Focus on personal wellbeing. It’s a sad fact that many business owners neglect their health until they achieve financial freedom.
