I know some people struggle with focus at work in January (not just January)…
SO – just a few techniques I learned the hard way…
…and a few I picked up from experts in their field, like Cal Newport and Brandon Webb.
🍅 Pomodoro Technique (hence the Tomato emoji). This is a time management method where you prioritise tasks and work for a set amount of time, take a short break, and then repeat the process. There are physical timers (shaped like tomatoes) and free apps you can use.
🍅 Create specific, achievable goals for each day or week. This can help you stay on track and make progress towards longer-term objectives.
🍅 Break up your work into smaller tasks and focus on one task at a time. Multitasking is a bit of a myth and can actually decrease productivity.
🍅 Minimise the number of times you switch tasks, as this can be mentally draining and make it harder to focus.
🍅 Eliminate distractions. Ideally, find a quiet, separate space to work on focus-intensive tasks.
🍅 Think about using headphones to block out audio distractions.
🍅 Set boundaries with co-workers, and let them know when you need to focus.
🍅 Designate specific times for checking emails and social media, rather than constantly checking them throughout the day.
🍅 Take breaks to recharge, which can actually improve productivity and focus in the long run.
🍅 Consider the time of day when you are most productive. Try to schedule your most important tasks at that time.
Are any other focus techniques you find useful..?
